Introduction to Lionism

Lionism is a global movement built on the belief that people united in service can transform communities and improve lives. Founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones, Lions Clubs International (LCI) has grown into the world's largest humanitarian service organization, with more than 1.4 million members serving in over 200 countries and geographic areas. For more than a century, Lions have demonstrated that compassion, volunteerism, and leadership can create lasting change.

Our Motto

These two words define the purpose of every Lion. Service is not simply an activity—it is a commitment to improving lives, strengthening communities, and promoting peace, understanding, and goodwill throughout the world.

What It Means to Be a Lion

Being a Lion means embracing the values of compassion, integrity, leadership, and selfless service. Lions dedicate their time, skills, and resources to helping those in need while inspiring others to do the same.

A Lion is someone who:

Lions Global Causes

Lions Clubs International focuses its humanitarian efforts on eight Global Causes that address some of the world's most pressing challenges.

Vision

Since the organization's earliest years, protecting sight has been a signature mission. Lions conduct vision screenings, support eye care services, recycle eyeglasses, and fund blindness prevention initiatives through programs such as SightFirst.

Hunger

Lions fight food insecurity by organizing food collection drives, distributing essential supplies, supporting community kitchens, and promoting nutrition awareness.

Environment

Environmental stewardship includes tree plantations, clean-up campaigns, recycling initiatives, climate awareness, and projects that encourage sustainable living for future generations.

Diabetes

Lions work to reduce the impact of diabetes through awareness campaigns, community screenings, education, prevention initiatives, and support for individuals living with the disease.

Childhood Cancer

Lions provide hope to children battling cancer by supporting treatment facilities, assisting families, funding research, and improving access to quality care.

Youth

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF)

The Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) serves as the charitable arm of Lions Clubs International. Through grants and financial assistance, LCIF enables Lions to undertake large-scale humanitarian projects that individual clubs could not accomplish alone.

Lionism began in Nepal in 1971, when Former Prime Minister Lion Matrika Prasad Koirala established the country's first Lions Club—Lions Club of Biratnagar. This historic milestone marked the beginning of a movement that would grow into one of Nepal's largest volunteer service networks.

As Lions Clubs expanded throughout the country, Lions Clubs International established Multiple District 325 Nepal to provide effective leadership and organizational support. With continued growth, the Multiple District was reorganized several times to better serve its increasing membership.

Initially divided into Districts 325 A1, A2, B1, and B2, the organization experienced remarkable expansion. By 2020, Nepal had surpassed 2,000 Lions Clubs, leading to another historic restructuring that created 15 independent Lions Districts. This transformation reflected both the rapid growth of Lionism and the dedication of thousands of Nepali volunteers committed to humanitarian service.

Today, Lions in Nepal actively serve communities through projects focusing on:

• Blood donation and health camps

• Vision screening and eye care

• Disaster relief and emergency response

• Environmental conservation

• Education and youth development

• Hunger relief

• Mental health awareness

• Community empowerment

Nepal continues to be recognized as one of the fastest-growing Lions communities in the world, demonstrating the nation's strong culture of volunteerism and service.

The Lions Club of Kathmandu Balaju Bright (LCK Balaju Bright) was officially chartered on 12 July 2025 under Lions International District 325 J, Nepal, with a shared vision of serving humanity through impactful community service, leadership, and compassion.

The club was established under the leadership of Charter President Lion Hari Kumari Sharma, together with its dedicated Charter Members:

Narayan Ghimire, Sita Devi Sharma, Bishnu Paudel, Sushan Ghimire, Khima Devi Sharma, Navin Paudel, Pralad Ghimire, Sanju Sharma, Bikash Tyata, Cholakanta Paudel, Prajjwal Acharya, Chandra Sharma, Dipa Prabhat Dhital, Deepak Acharya, Bhawani Giri, Gita Khanal, Radha Kumari Pantha, Binaya Lamichane, Tejendra Subedi, Laxmi Bhattarai, Sanju Paudel, Ashmita Adhikari, Kalpana Lama, and other committed members who united with a common purpose—to serve the community with dedication and integrity.

The successful chartering of the club was made possible through the invaluable guidance and support of:
